It is not so easy to reconcile commercial and production workflows. Kodak is currently trying to do this with the software providers Microsoft, PrintVis and VPress. The goal is to develop a comprehensive software solution for applications of all sizes.
Prinergy On Demand Business Solutions is intended to be a scalable, automated, end-to-end solution that covers requirements from ordering to procurement and payment. CRM and ERP can be combined with web-to-print and Prinergy production workflow in a cloud-based solution platform.
The entire package is hosted on Microsoft Azure. The print-specific ERP component, based on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, comes from PrintVis, while VPress provided web-to-print, e-commerce storefront and VDP authoring capabilities.
All of these components, of course, need to be set up and customized to meet a company’s specific needs. From the very beginning, care must be taken to ensure that specialists from all departments are at the table when it comes to connecting job management and production. This is also confirmed by Helmut Elsner, Managing Director of CTM Computer Technik Marketing GmbH in Stuhr. The systems provider is one of the leading integrators for PrintVis in Germany. “Not much has changed for us, the projects have to be thought through and effort is needed on the part of the companies to make the networking work,” Helmut Elsner told us in conversation.
It’s good when a vendor like Kodak offers a solution platform and takes care of integration, IT administration and ongoing maintenance through managed services. This is an issue that plays a major role in many projects and for which not all print shops are adequately positioned.
