Google lives off advertising – and it will continue to do so. Personalized advertising will continue to be used in the future, just with a different technology behind it: FLoC (Federated Learning of Cohorts). Although data protectionists are pleased that Google no longer uses cookies for advertising, nothing will fundamentally change in the way personalized advertising is played out.
Google is more interested in gaining an advantage over Facebook & Co. as these companies have so far not been able to manage without cookies for personalized advertising. So is this change at Google good or bad? Answer: let’s see! The fact is that the cookie query is annoying and everyone will be pleased to see it gone. But since personalized advertising in general won’t change much, it remains to be seen how it all evolves.
