News: mypostcard shows how to grow in vertical markets

Those who believe that sending postcards is “out” in the face of modern messenger services have been proven wrong by the app-to-print provider mypostcard.com for years. Now the company, which creates and sends personalized postcards from selfies and individual pictures, has expanded its portfolio – and is showing how to remain innovative in vertical markets.

The team around founder Oliver Kray has already proven several times that there is more than just the classic postcard. The company also offers postcards in unusual formats, as well as audio postcards, scented postcards and, most recently, glass postcards.

This in turn was developed by the Allgäu-based company Phoenico Design. The individual motif is printed directly onto the glass using an inkjet printing process, with a layer of white ink to give the design radiance and provide a background for the message on the reverse. To protect the glass postcard during transportation, a matching slipcase was developed that contains a small card holder in addition to the “card”. One thing is clear: this type of postcard will certainly not end up in a drawer any time soon – on the contrary, it will quickly become a decorative or even artistic element. So far, so good.

In addition to the primary goal of expanding the product range, the message also shows how you can remain innovative and grow even in a niche market. As the example of the postcard shows, there are always new approaches to how a “classic product” can be rethought – or which partnerships and cooperations can be used to upgrade the supposedly simple product and expand your own portfolio. We have also seen this in the photo book sector, where there are always new innovative approaches at regular intervals, as was recently seen with memperience or grow.photos, which were on stage as start-ups at the Online Print Symposium 2024 and 2023. Serving a niche market can therefore be quite exciting.
